Utah Champions To Compete in Far West Regional Championships

Can't spend a week in sunny California on a soccer vacation? You can still follow the progress of Utah's teams at this year's Far West Regional Championships.

Teams from Utah will represent the state in the tournament held in Lancaster, California during the week of June 15-21, 2008. During the first three days, teams will play a match a day during the preliminary round. The top teams in each age group will then advance to single-elimination matches.

Avalanche Premier 90 Advances to Finals!

Saturday was the perfect day for soccer at Regionals with the weather clear in the low 70's with light winds. Two Avalanche teams from Utah competed in the semi-final matches played at 8:00 a.m. in Lancaster, California. Avalanche 92 Premier saw their exceptional regional play come to an end with a loss. Avalanche 90 Premier is excited to compete in the finals on Sunday. Match recaps follow:

U19 girls UT-Avalanche Premier 90 verses WA-Shadow. Avalanche starts off strong in the first with 2 goals and half ended 2-0. Second half started with a PK against Utah that was denied but when clearing the ball a quick counter resulted in Washington scoring. Utah scored next to bring the match to 3-1 and Washington scored on a set play to close to one goal. Utah scored last to win the match 4-2. During regional play the utah teams has scored and impressive 30 goals and has allowed only 5. During regional play they have won four matches and tied one. Avalanche is no stranger to regionals having competed seven times in eight regionals. Avalanche advances to the finals on Sunday and will play 2008 Regional Camps Colorado Rush Nike who they tied during the preliminary round. The match will begin at 9:00 a.m. on field 20 for the championship. Good luck ladies, would be great to have you play for National Championship in July 2009.

U17 girls UT-Avalanche Premier 92 verses WA-Crossfire Premier. Avalanche came out against a very strong Crossfire team that had great speed of play and touch on the ball. They slowly wore down the Avalanche team and the final was 4-0 for the WA-Crossfire team. The Avalanche team played hard and finished with third place medals in their age group. This team will be strong next year and should be back for Far West Regionals in 2010.

Two Utah Teams Advance to Semi-finals

The quarter-final matches of the Far West Regional Championships were played today in Lancaster, California. The weather was clear with a forecast for 100 degrees. Eight Utah teams brought their best game to the field. Some left with the disappointment of defeat, however, two Avalanche girls teams thrilled in their victory and will advance. Both semi-final matches will be at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday. Good luck to the Utah teams continuing in the competition. Following is a recap of the quarter-final matches:

U17 girls UT-Avalanche 92 Premier verses OR-Tualatin Hills. Closely fought match with Avalanche coming out on top 1-0. Avlanche will play in the semi finals on Saturday at 8:00 a.m. and be matched against WA Crossfire Premier.

U19 boys UT-Sparta 90 Premier verses OR-WSM Gunners. Sparta was down 0-2 at the half and fought back to tie the match 2-2 at the end of regulation play. They played two over times and lost the match 3-2. This team was under roster strength from the start but advanced to the quarter finals.

U17 boys Inter FC 92 verses CS-Slammers FC. Hard fought match with good opportunities for both sides throughout the match. Slammers scored in the second half and the match ended 1-0. There were a lot of teams and coaches that watch this team play over the last four days and the boys put on a good showing for Utah.

U17 boys UT-La Roca Premier DP verses CN-United FC. Closely fought match with La Roca down 1-2 at half coming back in second half to finally lose the match 3-4, good play on both sides and the boys tried hard to put on a good showing for Utah.

U19 girls UT-Avalanche 90 Premier verses AZ-SC Delsol 90. From the opening kickoff Avalanche dominated the match with a 6-1 victory. They will pass on to the semi finals tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. and play WA-Shadow.

U18 girls UT-Black Diamond SC verses CN Pleasanton Ridge. Black Diamond had their hands full from the start of the match with a very quick and strong California Nnorth team that dominated the match with a final score of 6-0.

U15 girls UT-La Roca Premier PT verses AZ-Sereno 94 White. A very hard fought match with many opportunities in the first half but the score was 0-0 at half. Second half same results until 4 minutes left in regulation play Sereno scored to finish the match 1-0. Girls played hard for 4 days with out the result they wanted but show they were a team that can play with the very best in the Region.

U15 Boys UT-La Roca Premier AO verses NV Players United 94. Good match start to finish with NV coming out on top 3-1. Boys worked hard for three days to end up in the quarter finals and pushed Nevada hard during the entire match.

Eight Utah Teams Advance to Quarters at Regional Championships U18B Impact Black Honored with Fair Play Award

Preliminary games of the Far West Regional Championships were completed on Wednesday with 128 teams qualifying for advancement to quarterfinals that will be played Friday, June 18, at Lancaster National Soccer Center in Lancaster, Calif. Eight teams from Utah are advancing to the quarter-final round. Teams advancing are: U15G La Roca Premier PT, U15B La Roca Premier AO, U17G Avalanche 92 Premier, U17B Inter FC 92 Premier, U17B La Roca Premier DP, U19G Avalanche 90 Premier, and U19B Sparta 90 Premier.

Utah Youth Soccer would like to congratulate all of the teams participating in the 2009 Far West Regional Championships and wish them good luck on Friday.

Impact Black was honored Wednesday with the Region IV Fair Play Award. The Fair Play Award is given to one team in each age group at the end of the preliminary matches. It represents honorable play and sportsmanship both on and off the field. UYSA is proud of the players, coaches, and parents of Impact Black and congratulates them on this award.

La Roca Premier PT advances in the U15 Girls Division after finishing in 2nd place in the preliminary round of a very competitive flight. La Roca tied CS Slammers (FWRL champions) 0-0 on Monday. Their Tuesday match was against the California State Champion team CZ Elite Soccer. La Roca lost this match 0-1. On Wednesday La Roca played the LV Premier 94 White from Nevada and beat them 3 goals to 0. La Roca also competed at the 2008 Championships and advanced to the semi-final round. After giving up only 1 goal in the preliminary round, La Roca is ready to take on Sereno 94 White from Arizona on Friday at 12:00 noon.

Utah is represented by La Roca Premier AO in the U15 boys division. Going undefeated in the preliminary round La Roca is ready to face Nevada's Player's United 94. During the preliminary round La Roca beat Washington Premier FC 93 Black (1-0), New Mexico's Rio Vista 94 (2-0), and Idaho Rush Nike (5-3). Their quarter-final match is scheduled for 12:00 noon.

The U17 Girls Avalanche 92 Premier is advancing to the quart-final round undefeated. During the preliminary round Avalanche scored 12 goals and shutout all of their opponents. Their first match was against the Arizona Wild Card team GSC Arsenal which they won decisively with 5 goals to 0 goals. On Tuesday Avalanche played Rio Vista FC from New Mexico and beat them 3 goals to 0 goals. Their final preliminary match was against Hawaii's Real Rush Nike with another shutout and a score of 4-0. Avalanche will meet Tualatin Hills United Neon from Oregon on Friday at 8:00 a.m.

In the U17 Boys Division Inter FC 92 Premier finished 1st in their flight with 2 wins and a tie. On Monday Inter played the Washington State Champion team Eastside FC 91 and beat them 2 goals to 1 goal. Tuesday's match was against Hawaii's HSC Bulls which ended in 3-3 tie. A 2-0 win against Colorado Storm North earned Inter a spot in the quarterfinals. Inter FC will face off against the FWRL Fall Champions Slammers from So Cal on Friday at 10:00 a.m.

Our U17 Boys wild card team, La Roca Premier DP, is also advancing to the quarterfinals. After losing their first match to ESUFC Liverpool from Oregon 3-2 La Roca won their next 2 matches. They beat Idaho Boise Capitals 1-0 and Alaska Rush 2-0. La Roca will face off against Cal So Slammers on Friday at 10:00 a.m.

In the Girls U18 Division, Black Diamond from Utah advances to the quarters. Their first match was against the Nevada state champs Players SC which they tied 2-2. Their second match was against Cal So powerhouse Slammers which they lost 4-2. Wednesday Diamond was scheduled to compete against Alaska Rush which they won in a shutout with a score of 4-0. This left them tied for second in their flight and were advanced on tie breaker. Black Diamond will meet up with Pleasanton Rage from Northern California at 10:00 a.m. Friday.

Six-time Utah State Champions Avalanche 90 Premier is an experienced Regional competitor. They represent Utah in the U19 Girls Division. Avalanche advances to the quarter-final round with two wins and a tie. The first game of the tournament was an offensive victory against FC Portland Crimson, Oregon's wild-card team. They scored 11 goals and kept the Crimson scoreless. The Tuesday match against Hawaii's Leahi 90 Premier was another blowout ending in a score of 7-0. Avalanche's third match was against Colorado Rush Nike which ended in a 2-0 tie. SC del sol 90 white will be their quarter-final matchup on Friday at 12:00 noon.

Sparta 90 Premier is advancing to the quarter-final in the U19 Boys Division. Sparta's first match against Hawaii HSC Bulls ended in a 0-0 tie. Their second match a close 2-1 loss against New Mexico Rush Premier. With the chance to advance on the line Sparta pulled out a 4-2 win against GSC Arsenal-Arizona's wild card team. On Friday Sparta will meet the state champions from Oregon-WSM Gunners at 8:00 a.m.
