The second week of Region IV's ODP camp has concluded for Utah's '91 girls and the '92 boys. The respective Region IV ODP camps are held at the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho for the girls and the boy's camp is held at Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon. The '91 girls, under the direction of Head Coach Danny Ortiz, found themselves matched against New Mexico, the Region IV Invitation Pool, Hawaii and Colorado. Utah's '91 girls finished the week 2-1-1 losing only to Colorado on a last minute free kick in the final game. Unfortunately, injuries took their toll on the team throughout the week. Despite the great performances on the field, the '91 girls only had one player selected to the Region IV ODP Pool: Cloee Colohan. The '92 boys, under the direction of Head Coach Dennis Burrows, were matched against Oregon, Colorado, Cal North, Idaho and Nevada. Utah's match of the week came against Cal North on day three. Leading 1-0 on a goal by Derek Boggs late in the 2nd half, Utah goalkeeper Camree Gautavai came out to smother a ball and was kicked in the arm by a Cal North forward, resulting in a broken elbow. Unfortunately, the injury changed the rhythm of the game and Utah succumbed to Cal North in the final minutes losing 2-1. The '92 boys had three players selected to the Region IV ODP Pool: Derek Boggs, Camree Gautavai and Karson Payton. The '90 girls and the '91 boys arrive to their respective camps this week and we wish them continued success in their play. Congratulations and thanks to all of the players, coaches and administrative staff for a job well done! |
